Good machine for the price June 10, 2008 David Beierl (Providence, Rhode Island, USA) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
Works as advertised, makes fine ice cream. Instructions are brief and clear. Well-made for the price. About the size of a small wastebasket, fits easily into one side of a double sink. I think the size is an excellent compromise between the countertop units and the big churns.
The can is thin deep-drawn aluminum with no seams at the bottom to trap salt (like a soda can, but not nearly that thin). People have complained of it getting pinholes from corrosion during storage, but I think this must be from forgetting to rinse all salt from the bucket, or not drying can or bucket thoroughly. I would recommend storing the can upside down in the bucket so that any possible moisture/corrosion will be at the rim where it will do little harm, but the can will still be protected from dents.
The motor is silent but the gear train is noisy, because it's all spur gears. All gears but the final one are die-cast zinc, and the final looks like filled nylon or acetal. Gears and shafts are greased with white grease. I believe they should hold up nicely in home use. Motor is fan-cooled and has a self-resetting overheat protector.
All in all a good, lightweight but honest product that should last well if you get all the salt and moisture off after use.
Just Plain Great September 7, 2008 J. O. Brown (Arkansas) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
One of the best for the buck, it just makes great ice cream. Period. Also comes with great recipes, makes plenty. Isn't nearly as loud as I thought it would be and rust hasn't been a problem since it's cleaned well after each use.
?? I hate doing these things June 9, 2008 James R. Hess 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I like the thing it works great I used an old Ice cream recipe I had instead of the one in the booklet though and it turned out fantastic.
Works perfectly for me... May 25, 2009 Michele (West Coast) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this machine for at least a couple years, and I've never had any problems with it. I've made ice cream many times and each time it has frozen perfectly. I'm sorry for all the people who've had problems with this machine, but for me it's a winner.
Rival ice cream maker has NO rival! May 24, 2009 Ethyle Williams (Mobile, AL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I finally wore out out old Rival ice cream maker after 30 years and just bought this new Rival on Amazon. Tonight I made "Frozen Passion" ice cream for our family for my husband's 77th Birthday party. It worked perfectly. Everyone needs a Rival Ice Cream maker!
